The challenge

A Fortune 100 technology company was selling sophisticated personalisation capabilities into large retail customers, but the conversation tended to stall at the level of abstraction. Buyers understood the promise of "segments of one" intellectually, yet struggled to picture what it would actually do for their business — and what it would feel like for their shoppers. The team needed a way to make the behavioral logic underneath the technology tangible, both for their own sellers and for the retail leaders sitting across the table.

Our approach

We worked with the product and go-to-market teams to design a behavioral engine prototype: a working artifact that translated abstract personalisation concepts into concrete shopper journeys. Buyer segmentation was reframed around behavior and intent rather than demographics; behavioral interventions were mapped against where they would actually shift decisions in the funnel. The prototype itself was built to be demoed — sales-ready by design — so that conversations with retail customers could move from slideware into something hands-on, with the underlying behavioral mechanics visible and discussable.

The result

The engagement produced a working prototype the team could put in front of retail customers, alongside a sharper sales enablement story for the surrounding personalisation offering. Internally, it gave product and sales a shared language for what "segments of one" actually means in a retail context — and a concrete reference point for future iterations. The longer arc of how the capability evolved belonged to the customer; our role was to help turn an ambitious idea into something people could see, touch, and sell.
